Library Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The Library and Information Center of the Institute is housed in a 4 story building, located between Academic Building and R & D building in the Campus.

Note: During COVID-19, Library remains open Monday - Saturday from 8:30 AM to 6 PM.

All the current students, faculty and staff members, registered IIIT-D Alumni, and Corporate Houses/Industries can borrow books and other learning materials from the Library.

The Library creates the library accounts of IIIT-D students, staff, and faculty after joining IIIT-D. The users need not apply separately for the library membership. Once the library account is created, the user will get an email notification, including the account login credentials.
The Library membership for Alumni and Corporates can be applied separately using the hyperlinked forms.

The Library offers these SERVICES to the users

A dedicated PC is installed with a touch screen facility to access the online public access catalog (OPAC) on the 1st floor, near the library's circulation desk. The OPAC can also be accessed from anywhere using PC or mobile devices with an internet connection through the library portal

Learning materials can be borrowed from the circulation desk located at the 1st floor of the library. Users should always carry their ID cards while using the Library and information center.

Users need to return the issued items at the Library circulation desk, first floor. At the ground floor, a drop box is kept for returning the issued items (excluding Kindle devices) when the Library is closed.

Yes, the overdue fine will be charged @ Rs.10/- per day on each book (there will be no fine for Saturday, Sunday, and other holidays). Book issue service may be suspended if any overdue fine is due. Once the fine is paid, the service will be re-activated. The overdue fine shall be paid using this link (choose "Library Overdue Fine" as purpose).

To pay the overdue fine, users can use the IIIT-D payment portal (click here, choose "Library Overdue Fine" as a purpose).

Yes, you can renew the issued items 2 times online using following steps -

Note: If the book is kept on hold by some other user, the same cannot be renewed. In this case you need to return the book at the library.

Rules for the recovery of lost Library books:

A user can put a book on hold which is issued to any other user so that once it is returned, s/he gets the priority to borrow the book. To place hold, please follow the below steps -

IIIT-D Library offers Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service to its users for books and articles that are not available at IIIT-Delhi. Interested users may check the details of available resources and fill out the online form.

Users can recommend books for the library by logging in to his/her library account using this link. After successful login, go to "your purchase suggestions" then create "New purchase suggestion". The user will be notified while the book is ordered and received at the library.

Users can also recommend the books through emails and book recommendation form available at the circulation desk (print/download form).

The e-resources available in the library can be accessed through the library portal's resources page. To search print resources use the library catalog

The subscribed e-resources provide IP based access to the library users. The users can access directly to the e-resources by using IIIT-D internet service (LAN or WiFi) with a PC or Mobile device.

The users can access the subscribed e-resources from off-campus/outside campus through IdP Portal or VPN (Virtual Private Network). Please follow the Instructions to use VPN.

Yes, the library subscribes to plagiarism detection tools Turnitin and DrillBit. Besides these, the library also provides writing & publishing system Overleaf Pro+ and online proofreader Grammarly. For other resources and tools, please visit Resources.

The project reports, dissertations and theses submitted by past students can be found in the Institutional Repository of IIIT-Delhi.

Yes, the library has 44 Kindle readers containing 730+ Kindle e-books and Kindle Unlimited subscription (1 Million Kindle eBooks) for it's users. Users may borrow the same for 14 days and also can be renewed 2 times if not on hold (Kindle Borrowing Policy, please read it before lending the Kindle), more devices may add in upcoming days based on the usage.

Library offers document scanning service to all users. A dedicated color document scanner has been kept on the reference section first floor. Currently, Library doesn't provide the printing and photocopy facility, but an outsourced vendor offers this facility at the students' center on a payment basis.

The library has an in-house developed application that provides live occupancy information of the whole library building. Users can access the Library Occupancy to find out the available suitable spaces for them.

The reference section is located in front of the library office at the 1st floor of the library.

The course reserved books are kept in a separate book rack behind the circulation desk on the library's 1st floor. Also, the details of course reserve is listed on the Library Portal.

The competitive examination books are kept in a separate book shelf in front of the circulation desk on the 1st floor.

The New Arrivals are displayed at the corridor of 1st floor of the library.

Yes, the newspaper clips are displayed on the multipurpose display stand at the ground floor near the book drop box.

Yes, magazines (back issues) can be issued from the circulation desk as per your borrowing privilege. Newspapers (back issues) can be issued for a limited period (1-2 days) based on the circulation desk requirement.

Yes, there are an extensive variety of rich collections other than course books available in the library. To find out all the existing collections, please access "collection" under the advanced search.

Yes, the library conducts events on various topics relevant to the user community every month. Few of the topics have already been covered are mentioned below;

Yes, the user can keep the belongings with him/her inside the library (ground floor, 2nd floor and 3rd floor only) except the 1st floor of the building. If s/he wants to visit the first floor, they need to deposit the belongings at the property counter located near the stairs on the ground floor, but s/he can carry laptops, books, notebook, and headphones with him/her.

Yes, there are 2 water coolers available for users located at the ground floor and 2nd floor near the AHU rooms.

Yes, you can. Library accepts all the books which are relevant for its users and in good condition. Also, monetary donations can be given using the Library Payment Collection (select "Donation for Library".

Yes, the library offers the Library Membership to its Alumni and any interested Corporate Houses/Industries as well
